The White House Christmas Ornament: Beginning

During the year 1981, the White House Christmas Ornament program began. Created by the White House Historical Association, the first national Christmas Ornament was created and hung on the presidential Christmas tree in the Blue Room of the White house. Every year since, the national ornament is created and continues to adorn the Christmas tree in the White House. The first Christmas ornament was a replica of an old American weathervane and was hung on the White House Christmas tree by then President Ronald Reagan. Since then, the yearly Christmas ornament coincides with American history and national events. The White House Christmas Ornament program includes educational information included with the ornament. Proceeds from the sale of the White House Christmas Ornament benefit the White House Historical Association as well as other educational programs.
